Why should I prioritise Wound Care NOW?

"Pharmacists are ideally placed to advise patients on the use of dressings, encouraging best practice and ongoing self-care in suitable patients. Patients should be informed to use dressings correctly, in line with agreed treatment goals" (Ousey et al, 2021)

  • Reason 1: The Wound Care Pharmacist role is a rewarding and fulfilling career pathway.

  • Reason 2: You can establish an innovative Wound Care Clinic and deliver a valuable service to your community.

  • Reason 3: Pharmacists are an integral part of the Allied health care team and need to be skilled and knowledgeable in wound care.

  • Reason 4: We need you to help us tackle the global Wound Care Challenge together, NOW.

The Wound Care Challenge

"420,000 people suffer each from a chronic wound in Australia. The Australian government spends $3 billion of the budget each year on wounds" (Wounds Australia, 2022)

  • Solution 1: Improve Wound Care EDUCATION for allied health professionals

  • Solution 2: Utilise the PHARMACIST workforce to manage acute wounds and triage chronic wounds

  • Solution 3: SUBSIDISE wound care products and services in primary care for people at risk of chronic wounds

  • Solution 4: Build REFERRAL pathways in the community for timely management and access to wound care

I am so glad I completed this course during my intern year. Lusi explains everything so well and I found the workload manageable on top of all my intern year course and exam study. I have always been quite unsure with wounds but I have found with this course I am a lot more confident with my recommendations in the pharmacy and when having discussions with patients. I am looking forward to completing part 2 and setting up a wound care service within our pharmacy.

Great course!

Claudia Chu

This course covered key points of wound management in a short amount of time. Soon after the course, I was able to apply the knowledge to an elderly lady who came in to seek help for the management of skin tear.

Burns Management with Sharon Rowe

High-quality educational material. Sharon Rowe emphasises the important clinical pearls from her practice and Lusi summarised this into easy-to-digest take home messages. An excellent course, and this knowledge will definitely come into handy.

Excellent tutorial

Exceptional learning material on skin tears and basics of management, including wet vs. dry wounds. This is so poorly understood by so many healthcare practitioners. Thank you Lusi and Jan!!
